$44,000 and if they have to take you to court add court costs as well. I suggest talking to them before it gets that far.

Depending on the backing on a HELOC, your house if that’s the collateral of the loan.
Jesus
The holders of the HELOC can foreclose your home just like the holders of the first mortgage can. Your house is the collateral. That’s why it’s called a Home Equity Line of Credit.
They can come after you for the full $44,000, plus any court costs, legal fees, and other costs incurred by them for collection.
Lloyd
Well they gave you $44,000, so you owe that at a minimum. You will need to tack on their attorney and court fees, plus some interest. It is hard to give you a number w/o knowing what their attorney charges. It could be 1k an hour, or 300 an hour (pretty average).
You can expect them to get 60-80k.
